We use Domino 7 on Windows and Linux. But no migration away from Windows.

We prefer Debian (of course :-) )

i think Ubuntu is an important one to support also ( for both server and client )

1 - We're moving the servers that we can move from Windows to Linux.

2 - RHEL.

We have a 64-bit RHEL 4 Domino 7.0.2 server for mail archiving. We generally put everything on System i, though, but we couldn't mount our NAS from the i box. It runs great on our Linux box.

We are currently all Windows 2K & 2003 servers. We are looking to move to Linux in the future (probably as part of our VMWare implementation). Our preferred Linux Distro would be SUSE because we are a Netware MLA shop.

We are using system i and Windows servers but thinking about switching to SUSE for servers and Ubuntu for desktops

1) Moving from Windows. The only Windows Domino servers I will have is our Sametime (maybe changed in the summer??) and the Blackberry server.

2) SuSE is our preferred distro

As an ISV, we have a bunch of systems.

But I did get Domino 8 working perfectly happily on a 64-bit Fedora Core 6 box (once I'd "Yum"'d a compatibility C++ library down).

Yes, I know - it will never be a supported platform, etc, but I was curious. No, dont worry, we're an ISV and its only (yet another!) test box...

(Dont try this at home, folks!)

From our point of view, our customers are all interested in porting to Linux, and seem to be favouring RedHat (but its a not a huge straw poll) over Suse..

We have several Domino 7 servers running on Windows. We also have lots of windows clients.

In both cases, only Ubuntu is really of interest.

What are the chances D8beta2 will run on RHEL 4 (by which I really mean CentOS 4)? If absolutely necessary, I see I can get an eval of SLES10, but...

Oh, and moving away from Windows of course.

I know it wasn't on your list, but as others have already mentioned, Ubuntu support would be great!

1.) not moving, we have some windows and some linux machines. But I installed Domino 8 Beta on a Linux machine first.

2) Ubuntu Server is the preferred Linux distro

for several reasons:

1. JFS2 is trully superior as filesystems go.

Specifically when using many disks in both

SAN and DAS (EXP3000). It is perfect for

Domino. No other FS that comes with Linux

comes close.

Ubuntu supports JFS2 as boot-part as well.

2. It's very lean

3. Good 64bit Support.

4. Free, but with good support.

Seems to make sense - it's a great product

We're new to Domino and Linux is the first choice.

We're a RedHat place mainly, but because of our links with Novell we have more and more SLES boxes poping up. On the desktop Ubuntu and SLED are popular.

Personally I'd like to run the lot on Debian/Ubuntu.

...by the way, can anybody tell me where I'd find a list on necessary RPM's for Domino 7/8 for RH AS4

I use Linux mainly for testing and eval in VMs. MS is getting better at copy protecting Windows servers and clients and frankly, its easier to just run Linux than have to constantly battle with license keys, expiry etc.

Like many others, my personal preference would be Ubuntu server and client. A large organisation I work for has a preference for SLES/SLED 10.

I prefer Ubuntu Linux.

We run a RH4 server with VMWare for Windows servers for testing for clients - some of the smaller clients want to go to Linux to avoid the MS Licensing costs - and installed Domino 8 over top of 7.0.2 in Red Hat 4 and it's going well.

SuSE Linux version 9 and 10.

I'm testing the notes 8 beta 2 on OpenSuSE 10.2, with Gnome desktop.

Have come across a few bugs which I will report in the ND8 beta forum. Overall a good beta, quite stable and really useable

I run Domino and Notes 8 Beta 2 on SUSE Linux (SLED 10). I already have RAD7 running there, and if Notes8 performs well also, I will make the move from Windows.

CLient? Duh...

For Domino, we've been running since the first public linux beta, so just staying with the same.

SuSE on the server side. Client? Depends on the day.

We consider to start with Domino 8 from scratch (as a new customer).

We would love to see IBM/Lotus Team supporting Debian (available since 1996!) - at least Ubuntu.

Please note that IBM supports Ubuntu already for DB2 ( { Link } )

Even HP started a wordwide support for Debian last year ( { Link } ).

Sorry my daughter answered this post too quickly. I run most of my servers on Debian, some on CentOS.

I would prefer Windows instead of Suse or Red Hat. Windows Server is quite a stable OS nowadays and still has the best add-on support.

We run 2 physical servers, each w/2 partitions for our mail clusters. 1 is Win2003, the other is RHES 4. We will be moving the Win2003 to Linux when the equipment lease is up. We may move our app servers as well if they apps behave well, but find some restrictions due to increased costs associated with antivirus add ons, etc.

Having Ubuntu support would be really a great addition... many companies in Brazil that are evaluating / implementing Linux are using Ubuntu.

2. SLES, some customers require RedHat in Netherlands when they have been openly active with Linux enterprise software on server infra for several years already. New customers tend to lean towards SUSE and we support them in that choice. No requests for Ubuntu yet.

I would run Linux on my daily workstation when Domino Admin/Devel are available. I can switch to OpenOffice but would miss MS Visio. Does anyone know something comparable in Linux? (send me a link!)

I think it is high time Domino / IBM support a community driver, free Linux distro. With Ubuntu offering support for 5 years from release, I think it is ideal.

Ubuntu 7.04 (and forward) would be really great!

For the notes 8 client, suse SLED 10. for the dolino server Suse SLES 10.

Ubuntu 6.xx, 7.xx, ++ would be great to have.

Would like to move from Windows Server to Ubuntu. Free or low cost is important as we are a non-profit. IBM/Lotus needs to give more breaks in the non-profit world. Very few of the 1000's of small non profits I come across even know what Lotus is and those that do cannot afford it.

We use SLES10 SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 as well as Novell SuSE LINUX 10 Standard and Windows 2003 server.

Depends on our customer wishes.

I prefer Centos for domino servers. Runs like a dream

Moving Domino from Windows whenever possible at client sites.

Also another vote for Ubuntu for servers, and maybe soon for Notes clients.

CentOS 4.4 works great! Domino 6.5.x & 7.0.x.

openSuSE 10.2 here, Notes 8.0 Beta 3 works great..

One thing I find stupid is the installation for Notes Default is /opt/ibm as the RPM install location for sametime (detached client) is /opt/IBM

Where is the consistancy there? (this is for both 7.5 and 7.5.1).

I also use SLED 10 for alot of testing purposes, but it was too slow to come out with stuff (I like semi bleeding edge, so I am sticking with oepnSuSE for my prod machine)>

Neither.

I am just looking at Domino on the Nitix Blue Platform. We have run a Nitix server since Feb 2004 using their Exchange It for Outlook on Win XP desktops. I am beginning to review alternatives to Vista. So far, Ubuntu is looking pretty good. A LOT cleaner than my XP Pro setup.

Our current Domino servers run on Windows... need monthly patching - PAIN!

and with those monthly reboots, runs okay (except for need to defrag & chkdsk (or run diskeeper!)... but skip a month and go without a reboot - bad idea! :(

Longtime user of Linux... moved to CentOS since no lic needed and is RH flavor which is what I grew up on. I'm going to run Domino beta just to see how EASY it is to setup and run compared with windows install - big concern here is that there is a "learning curve". If we can just point & click like windows install and same commands are available - moot point. :)

As many people have said, the Ubuntu/Debian server release is slim and easy to maintain. Ubuntu has great support (that we've experienced so far) and we only have to pay for support we need. No licensing just to get patches to a lot of packages we don't even use.

I need help on locating a version of DAMO that works for Lotus 8.5, outlook 2007, and Windows 7

Been running Domino on Linux for years. Left Windows and never looked back. Red Hat is our internal choice.
