Today Russ Holden, Domino Chief Architect and myself,  Rob Ingram, Domino product manager, presented the roadmap for Domino 8 and beyond at Lotusphere (Session ID201). This session covered the overall Domino strategy, which builds on existing Domino advantages while protecting customers' past and future investments. We described many feature details of Domino 8 release. And, for the first time in public, we described the roadmap beyond Domino 8, signalling our continuing and growing investment in Notes and Domino.

Domino 8 details are being presented. Here are some highlights from our presentation to look out for:
  • Improved Domino messaging features that are available in Notes 8 - message recall, improved out-of-office service, and Internet mail threads. Domino Web Access 8 will also be discussed in detail today at a separate breakout session (ID110).
  • Improved management and administration features, including policy management improvements, Domino Domain Monitoring, and the new Notes 8 provisioning capabilities. Also being introduced today are the new Inbox cleanup feature and database redirection capabilities. More details and demos of  Domino 8 Administration are also being presented today in session ID202.
  • Directory improvements include improved group membership expansion and improved performance. We will provide entitlement to IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator for use with Domino 8 to simplify multi-directory integration.
  • New security features include stronger encryption keys.

Beyond Domino 8, the roadmap gets even more exciting. We are planning to deliver a Domino "Next" release that will include :
  •  More openness with native support of LDAP directory and Active Directory;
  • Alternative forms of authentication, including making the use of Notes ID files optional;
  • Many advances in email management to reduce the cost of mail storage.

If you are at Lotusphere and miss today's presentations, we will be repeating the Domino roadmap presentation on Wednesday at 4:15 pm.
